This morning the Mermaid Sapphire steamed south of Falalop Island, turned west, and passed through Mugai Channel into Ulithi’s lagoon.
At dawn this morning, after steaming southwest all night, Mermaid Sapphire arrived at Ulithi, the nearest land to Challenger Deep.
“He’s on the bottom. His depth is 35,756 feet. All systems are performing well.”
“We do it for the betterment of our people. We do it for safety.” Ali Haleyalut looked at Jim and smiled. Jim nodded slowly, “I understand.”
At mid-day we’re on a course of 240 degrees steaming toward Ulithi, forty islets surrounding an enormous, oval-shaped lagoon in the westernmost Caroline Islands.
